Collections

PRONI holds a wealth of public records and privately deposited papers relating largely, but by no means exclusively, to Northern Ireland.  Their collection of books is provided primarily for PRONI staff, although visitors may request individual books for consultation in the Reading Room.

You can search some of their records on the NICS Library catalogue, however you must visit PRONI to consult any of their reference material. Before visiting PRONI to consult a particular title, check out the online catalogue of NI Libraries to see if your local library have a copy available.

To access PRONI, you will need to register as a visitor.  This will require the completion a registration form and having a photograph taken for your Visitor Pass. Photographic proof of identity and a permanent address will be required.

To order any book from the PRONI collection, use the terminals in the Search Room.  Check the PRONI eCatalogue for the LIB number and submit a request by clicking on the "Order document" link.  The books will be brought to you from the stores.
